Tell us a little bit about yourself
I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and now live in Minnesota with my husband and our four children. I’ve always wanted to be a writer. Teenaged Jess filled many notebooks and scribbled on countless scraps of paper and napkins whenever inspiration hit.
I’m lucky enough to be doing what I dreamed of and what I love. When I’m not spending time with my family or indulging in a Doctor Who marathon, I’m hunkered down trying to put on paper the worlds and characters filling my head. Yeah, I’m definitely the luckiest gal ever.
Describe your writing style using just one sentence.
I create stories about real women finding their irresistible men and the endless possibilities between them.
Complete this sentence: I write ___ because…
I write romance because I actually do believe in happily ever afters. I don’t think love is easy or effortless; not by any stretch of the imagination. It takes work, but when you love the person, happily ever after is so worth the effort.
Do you prefer to see your work in electronic, print or both forms? Why?
Oh definitely both. As a reader I like both, so as an author, I don’t prefer one over the other.
Tell us about your favorites and why:
These definitely change on a daily basis. Sometime hourly. It really depends on my mood, so I’ll share who my faves are in this moment.
Kaelen from Fate’s Song. I was revisiting this world recently and, honestly, I completely fell in love with my Fey king all over again. The love he has for Abby, for his people and world… The choice of what to sacrifice when the time comes… How strong he is even when, to others, he seems weak… And he’s sexy, to boot! *dreamy sigh*
Emma from Her Way. I think it’s because I see a lot her in the women around me, even in myself to a degree. She spends her life looking to the needs and wants of everyone else. When she finally, finally decides to take care of herself, she finds love, but she struggles not to go back to her old ways. She loves, and loves big. Her family, her friends, the love of her life… She wants to make them all happy. The impossible task of every woman, no?
While I love a bad guy (or girl) who can be redeemed, sometimes the best villains are the ones who are just bad through and through. Ana from the Into the Shadows series is just that. She’s an evil bitch, period. I love to hate her, plain and simple. J
This took something thinking, and I’d have to say, the internal conflict Seth from Tease Me, Please Me is my favorite conflict in all my books. He was changed into a vampire against his will. The only thing driving him forward is focusing on revenge against the one who changed him. It doesn’t matter that his sister and others accept him for who and what he is, that they welcome him, he can’t accept himself and what he has become. The conflict waging inside him is intense. It was incredibly hard to write, but so rewarding at the same time, especially when he finds his happily ever after.
e. Happy ending:
Fate’s Song, hands down. I cried when I wrote the end of that book. Wrote the end, and just bawled. I’m not going to give away how they get their happy ending…but it’s a romance, so you know they get one! LOL And for me, it was the perfect ending for their love story.
For readers who have never read your work before, what book would you suggest they read first? Why?
Hmmm, this is a seriously hard question! This one took some pondering. I’d have to say Coming Home from Resplendence Publishing. This was actually the first book I ever wrote, believe it or not. I’d take it out over the years and fiddle with it here and there. Last year, I finally decided enough was enough. It was time for the world to know Kate and Gabe. Their romance isn’t smooth, their happily ever after isn’t easy or instantaneous—they have to work at it. So it really embodies my reason for writing romance like no other book. It was my labor of love that I had to work for…a lot…for a very long time! And I love it as much today as I did when I first started in all those years ago.
Here’s a taste of what Jessica Jarman has to offer her readers:
Emma Lawrence is used to doing everything for everyone else—putting herself last. While celebrating her thirtieth birthday with her girlfriends, Emma does something totally out of character, something just for her. She takes hottie, Will Calonen, home.
Will isn’t looking for a serious relationship. Hell, right now, he isn’t looking for a casual one. Then Emma stumbles into his life. He doesn’t know how the sexy brunette will fit into plans, but he knows one thing—he’s not about to let her stumble out of his life.
As their relationship intensifies, Emma learns just how sweet—and satisfying—having her way with Will can be. But when her family begins placing demands on her, will he run for the hills...or defend his woman and help her stand up for herself?
Coming home for Gabe Monroe isn’t a joyous occasion. He returns to say goodbye to his father, and he stays to honor his father’s final request—take care of the family. He’s completely unprepared for the attraction he feels for his sister’s best friend and blames his grief when he gives into it. Gabe tries to put things right. Kate is practically family, and he promised his father he’d take care of her. However, Gabe is pretty sure taking Kate hard and fast against any ready surface wasn’t what his dad had in mind.
Kate Pearson thought she was over her childhood crush on Gabe, but his return has all those feelings rushing back. Add in the toe-curling, mind-blowing sex…and Kate is well on her way beyond just a crush. Despite his constant meddling and insistence that they need to keep things platonic, he makes her tremble with desire and yearn for forever with him.
Even as Gabe begins to accept their blossoming relationship, Kate's past casts a shadow over their future as they realize he isn't the only one who’s come home.
The last thing Erin Harrison expects when she heads to girls weekend away is to end up stranded with Liam Donovan. The man she shamelessly threw herself at three months before. The man who totally shot her down. The man she’s steered clear of ever since.
Erin wonders how she'll survive the one thing she's avoided…and the very thing she yearns for more than anything—being Alone with Liam.
Darcy and Mac are “best friends with benefits”, but now Mac wants more than just the hot sex. He wants Darcy forever. And he’ll risk everything to get her.
After lusting after her friend, Jace, for years, Carly summons up the nerve to seduce him. But what if the experience isn't what she imagined? Can she hang on to their friendship after a night in his arms?
Welcome to a world where vampires exist, but not the vampires of legend. They do not fear the light, crosses and holy water make them laugh, and they won't ask you to hold the garlic when you serve Italian.
They, like us, live ordinary lives, finding love and trying to survive. But there are still monsters lurking in the shadows. Those who refuse to follow the laws of their kind. Those who, out of fear, hunt what they do not understand.
There are also those who fight for the safety of all, who enforce the laws and vow to protect, no matter what the risk. These are their stories, stories of bravery and love so strong it withstands everything.
Using magicks to interfere with or influence events in the human realm is strictly forbidden. Every faery, young and old, in the Fey Realm knows this.
When Kaelen, Prince of Fey, breaks this law, everything changes. Because he acted in defence of others, his life is spared. Banishment is his sentence. He has little to no hope of returning home. He has no clue that the events that lead to his exile will not only affect him, but all those around him. Dark magicks are at work and will touch the Prince and his people in more ways than they could imagine.

Why are you attending Authors After Dark 2012? Why should your readers attend?
2011 was my first year attending Authors After Dark, and that experience made my decision to attend AAD 2012 easy. Not only do I get to meet up with author friends I don’t get to see face to face very often, I get to reconnect with reader friends and meet new ones. The events are spectacular and make it easy to meet and chat with readers, and what else could an author want? Why should readers attend? Well, take a list at the authors attending, and if that doesn’t get you excited (and I’m sure it does!), how about the fact it’s in New Orleans? AAD is an affordable conference in a spectacular city with a ton of very cool authors who WANT to spend time and talk with their readers. A winning combo, right?
