Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m a forensic anthropologist who found herself in the corporate software world. When the bubble burst, I went back to what I really loved and fell back on my minor in creative writing.
Describe your writing style using just one sentence.
I write sexy action-adventure with paranormal elements in it.
Complete this sentence: I write ___ because…
I write paranormal romance because that’s what I’ve always wanted to read. I grew up on Stephen King and romance, so mixing the two came pretty easily. I do write some romantic comedy as well.
I personally read e-books almost exclusively these days, but I want my stuff available anyway a reader might want it.
Tell us about your favorites and why:
JR Ward’s Zsadist. Because he is sooooo yummy. I love a tortured hero.
Feldema is an evil sister to the heroine in my book, Birthright. I just loved hating her nasty selfish streak. She was one of those characters that generated email. Everyone loved how nasty she was and they all wanted to kill her.
For readers who have never read your work before, what book would you suggest they read first? Why?
If they want the romantic comedy, I’d start with Beware of the Cowboy. If they like the paranormals, Hot, Hard and Howling is a sexy fun adventure that really gives readers an idea of what to expect from my stories.
Here is a little of what Mari Freeman has to offer her readers:
Hot, Hard and Hexing is now available.
Book two in the Hot, Hard series.
When magic is attracted to magic, it’s impossible to ignore…
Sonja Ambercroft’s homebody existence is about to change. Drastically. A Dreamstalker has kidnapped her cousin in exchange for a powerful talisman, and Sonja soon finds herself doing things she’d never imagined. Stealing the talisman from her sister? Check. Grappling with Gremlins? Check. Enjoying ridiculously hot visions about a scruffy, sexy mountain man doing untold things to her naked body? Che—
Wait…what? As if she needs that kind of distraction right now! Especially when the stranger’s magic stirs her inner Dragon. Not good. A childhood tragedy has made shifting too dangerous. Sonja can’t risk letting her Dragon loose, but as the erotic visions transform into real-life fantasies, the beast becomes harder to contain.
Sonja’s dangerous adventure will require help from her reclusive mountain man, a Fairy and no less than two queens—one Voodoo, one drag. But ultimately she’ll have to trust her other self, let her inner Dragon roar, if she hopes to bring her cousin back alive.

I have new series based on the Valkyrie myths coming soon. Very short Quickie novels from Ellora’s Cave. Of course, it’s my take on the Valkyrie legend, so there’ll be lots of loving and lots of modern twists.
Last year was my first AAD and I absolutely loved, loved, loved it. The panels were great, the parties fun and the intimate atmosphere gave readers and authors a lot of opportunities to mingle. And it is NEW ORLEANS. I adore that city. The Hot, Hard series is based there. Lots of steamy New Orleans nights in my past and in the series.
Tell us something about yourself that we wouldn’t think to ask.
Something most people don’t know about me…hmmm? I guess some might say I am a bit competitive. I made it to the national level competing in speed skating as a teenager and with horseback riding in college.
Really. It’s not a problem. I just don’t like to lose. It’s not like I have an issue with it or anything. lol
